Argo named as Best Picture at the Producers Guild Awards

For the past five years the winner of the best film accolade at the PGAs has gone on to win best picture at the Academy Awards. Having already picked up the best director and best dramatic film gongs at the Golden Globes, the success of Ben Affleck's Argo looks set to continue.

Review: Gangster Squad

With a savage opening scene, Ruben Fleischer sets the tone for his new mobster film set in Los Angeles, 1949. Based on a true story, Gangster Squad tells the tale of the demise of Mickey Cohen, LA gangster, heroin dealer and racketeer, at the hands of a pack of LA PD cops tasked with "bringing down" his clan.

2013 Oscar Disappointments

Ben Afleck and Leonardo di Caprio both snubbed as the 2013 Oscar Nominations are revealed. The Academy Awards, due to take place in Los Angeles on February 24, has also failed to recognise the performances of Britain's Dame Judi Dench and Dame Helen Mirren despite being tipped for nominations.

US cinema leads the way in the 2013 Bafta nominations. Indeed, the hotly anticipated film, Lincoln, has 10 nominations including Best Film and Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis while Les Miserables flies the flag for Britain with 9 nominations.
